INTRODUCTION FROM THE CONFERENCE CHAIR Welcome to the 24th Annual ICADD Conference, “Moving Forward, Getting What You Need”. We would like to extend our thanks to the Governor and Mrs. Otter and the Office of Drug Policy for joining us to present the Lifetime Achievement Award, and to address our audience of dedicated helping professionals. Here’s the first thing you should know. From my seat as Chair of the Idaho Conference on Alcohol and Drug Dependency, I have had the privilege to see the 2008- ICADD Planning Committee members meet as needed and then share information through countless e-mails and clarifying phone calls. They brought their attention, creativity, and patience to the table without fail. They did this in addition to all their job duties to ensure that professionals in our community receive the best education and training possible in the field of substance abuse treatment. Conference planners, Chris and Stacee Daniels, worked with all of us and with all of our outstanding presenters to develop a state of the art conference. That’s the first thing you should know. The next thing is to thank all our speakers for coming to Idaho to present to our service providers. “Moving Forward, Getting What You Need” is designed so that our speakers can tailor their topics to meet the needs of practitioners at all levels of experience and across a continuum of care. The opening keynote and first day of the conference will be a time for our national experts to give briefings on substance abuse policy from a national perspective. The afternoon session will be a “Town Hall” meeting with policy experts and Idaho policy makers, where conference attendees will be able to engage in a dialogue about what is working and what isn't in the substance abuse system in Idaho. As you leave the conference this year, may you enjoy new skills, renewed friendships, and hope for the ongoing recovery of all those we serve. Joan M. Sheehan, Chair ICADD Planning Committee |
AA & NA MEETING INFORMATION Once again the conference is featuring open 12-step meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings to emphasize the importance of this widely available recovery support system and to provide opportunities for conference attendees to experience this powerful fellowship. |
AL-ANON MEETING INFORMATION Tuesday and Wednesday evenings will feature open meetings. For over 50 years, Al-Anon has been offering hope and help to families and friends of alcoholics. It is estimated that each alcoholic affects the lives of at least four other people. No matter what relationship you have with an alcoholic, whether they are still drinking or not, all who have been affected by someone else’s drinking can find solutions that lead to serenity in the Al-Anon fellowship. |
"WHAT WORKS" POLICY PANEL We are proud to present a policy panel as a new addition to the conference schedule this year. The “What Works” Policy Panel is an interactive forum for national experts to address various drug treatment policies throughout the country. We hope that it will be utilized as a way to give voice to those issues that need attention from our Idaho executive and legislative leaders. State policy defines statutes and rules for the provision of prevention and treatment for substance addiction and abuse disorders. These polices effect all of us, as they impact who is served with public funds. In addition to invited legislators, our panel members listed below represent treatment, public health, research and government. They will respond to what is working, what is not, and proactive directions for Idaho to consider in best serving Idahoans.
