Laverne Hanes-Stevens, Ph D, MS Ed

Dr. Laverne Hanes-Stevens is the GAIN senior clinical consultant at Chestnut Health Systems, where she coordinates clinical trainings and leads in the development of clinical materials for the Global Appraisal of Individual Needs (GAIN). She earned her MS Ed in community counseling from Duquesne University (Pittsburgh) and Ph D in Christian counseling from South Florida Theological Seminary (Deerfield Beach, FL). She has worked extensively in managing rehabilitative and support programs for people diagnosed with substance use disorders; incarcerated women and their families; the homeless; and at-risk youth. As the founder/director of Renewal Ministries, Inc, she conducts conferences and seminars that help people and organizations develop new responses to life, using faith-based approaches. She frequently serves as a trainer/consultant to churches and faith-based organizations to assist with the development of substance abuse and lay-counseling programs. Dr. Hanes-Stevens is the author of The Fruit of Your Pain: Experiencing Spiritual Renewal through Seasons of Struggle.
