Robert Barnett Robert Barnett, C.A.D.C. is a Drug Alcohol Rehabilitation Specialist for the Idaho Department of Correction, and has worked for the Department since 1995. Bob became a volunteer for Cognitive Self Change programming in 1990. He facilitated groups 1991-thru 1994, and then worked as an alcohol/drug counselor in the public sector in residential and outpatient treatment. He has now facilitated cognitive Self Change for 15 yrs, and is a state trainer. He is considered by his peers to be the "CSC-subject matter expert."
Gail Cushman Gail Cushman, Director of Education, Division of Education and Treatment, Idaho Department of Correction was conferred with her Bachelor of Science from Texas Woman's University, Master of Art from the University of Florida, and Education Specialist from the University of Idaho.
Mike Cutler Martin (Mike) Cutler joined the faculty of the Department of Counselor Education at Boise State University in the Fall of 2006. He is an enrolled member of the Fort Hall Shoshone-Bannock Tribe of Idaho. Dr. Cutler has taught college courses and presented to schools, college classes, and community groups on cultural awareness and cross-cultural counseling for over 15 years.
Kipp Dana Kipp Dana, M.A., LCPC, LAT, is licensed as a Professional Counselor in Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming. He has worked in the substance abuse and mental health field since 1989 and as a licensed therapist since 1996. His professional experience spans several service sectors including: secondary and higher education, community mental health, residential treatment, youth corrections, and substance abuse prevention and treatment. He is currently the Director of the D7 Treatment Program. He attended his first GAIN Training in July 2005, is certified as a GAIN Regional Administration Trainer, and has completed GAIN Advanced Clinical Interpretation Training.
Susan Esp Dr. Susan Esp is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and a Nationally Certified Addictions Counselor. She has over 20 years experience working with adolescents and families in the area of substance abuse prevention, intervention and treatment. She worked as a prevention/interventionist for the Boise School District, a therapist and prevention/intervention specialist for Boise State University and is currently a Special Lecturer and Coordinator of Undergraduate Addiction Studies at Boise State University. Her research interests include Best Practices in Substance Abuse Prevention, the Effects of Wellness on Ethical Decision Making, and Competency-Based Adult Education.
Judi Grucella Judi Grucella lends her 27 years of expertise in various specialties of physical therapy to our facility. Her experience includes orthopedic, manual, neurologic, vestibular, pediatric, hospice, women’s health, and modified yoga based therapeutic exercise. Her continuing professional studies with the Movement Studies Institute, Feldenkrais Advanced Trainings and the Up ledger Institute have allowed her to further expand into teaching Awareness through Movement lessons based on the Feldenkrais Method and to also provide cranial-sacral and visceral manipulation techniques in her work. In the last five years she has published a six volume series of "Stretch and Tone" manuals for exercise and provides private and small group classes. Judi brings an extensive knowledge base to our patients for health care.
Bob Hayes Bob Hayes is a certified alcohol drug counselor and clinical social worker. He holds Diplomat Standing with the American Psychotherapy Association. He currently works at LCSC in Lewiston Idaho. His time at LCSC has been 12 years teaching the Addictions Program Courses as well as works in a consultative role with the Dept. of Health & Welfare with CPSA clients needing access to treatment services in Region II. Bob is a National Trainer of Trainers for the PAMI (Promoting Access of Motivational Incentives) project via the Mountain West ATTC, University of Nevada, Reno. He is noted for his reputation and ability to be engaging as a trainer and mentor!!
Ron Jackson Mr. Jackson has been working as a clinician, administrator, educator, researcher and consultant in the field of addiction treatment since 1972. In April, 2003 he was awarded the Nyswander-Dole Award by the American Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence for his contributions to the field. He is Ron Jackson, M.S.W., is the Executive Director of Evergreen Treatment Services (ETS), a private non-profit organization, in Seattle, Washington, that provides outpatient opioid treatment to over 1200 patients in clinics in Seattle and Olympia, WA. Mr. Jackson has been an Investigator on many research projects which have been conducted at ETS over the past decade. Those studies have investigated treatment, motivational enhancement and acupuncture interventions for opiate dependent individuals, cocaine addicts and marijuana dependent individuals. He is currently a Co-Principal Investigator for the Washington Node of NIDA’s Clinical Trials Network and is an Affiliate Professor at the University of Washington’s School of Social Work.
Norma Jaeger

Norma D. Jaeger, M.S., has over 30 years in managing public substance abuse and mental health services throughout the Northwest. She currently serves as Statewide Drug Court and Mental Health Court Coordinator with the Idaho Supreme Court working with eleven DUI Courts in Idaho She previously served as County Administrator for Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services in Portland Oregon and in Seattle Washington. She is one of the authors of the national Drug Court Institute publication “Guiding Principles for the DWI Court.

David Mee-Lee

David Mee-Lee, M.D. is a board-certified psychiatrist, and is certified by examination of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM).
Past academic appointments have included clinical affiliations in the Departments of Psychiatry at Harvard University, the University of Hawaii and the University of California, Davis.
Based in Davis, California, Dr. Mee-Lee is involved in training and consultation full-time. For over twenty-five years, he has focused on developing and promoting innovative behavioral health treatment that values clinical integrity, high quality, and cost-consciousness. In addition, he has over twenty-five years experience with dual diagnosis (co-occurring addiction and mental illness) treatment and program development.
Dr. Mee-Lee's clients involve both provider and practitioner groups, as well as managed care organizations. He was a consultant in the first major managed care Medicaid project for substance abuse in Massachusetts, as well as public sector managed substance abuse care in Iowa.

Dr. Nuckols has led numerous corporate start-up and reengineering projects including involvement in the development of four publicly traded companies. Rusty O'leary Rusty O’Leary earned a Masters Degree from the Albertson College of Idaho in 1994. He has been a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor since 1998. He owns and operates a substance use disorder treatment agency and a mental health agency. He has provided contract services for state, federal and county agencies. He is a founding member of AACT-Idaho and has actively participated on committees for the Access to Recovery Alliance, the Department of Health and Welfare and the Idaho Office of Drug Policy. He completed training by Chestnut Health Systems and was certified, on behalf of the ODP, for GAIN Advanced Clinical Interpretation.
John Porter John Porter is the owner of PEGASUS training and consulting. John has worked in Oregon, Idaho, Washington, Alaska and Hawaii for the past 10 years teaching and training the NFATTC model of Clinical Supervision.
In addition, John has implemented the model in numerous agencies in the Northwest region. John has over 25 years of treatment and teaching experience in addictions treatment, counseling and supervision. John holds a Masters' Degree from Texas A & M University. He has collaborated in writing Clinical Supervision Part II and III with Dr. Steve Gallon at the Northwest Frontier ATTC and recently sat on the SAMHSA panel to write TIP 40 for Clinical Supervision in Substance Abuse Treatment, which is scheduled for publication in 2009.
John spends much of his free time in his second home in Escazu, Costa Rica and enjoys travel and photography.
Ryan Porter Ryan Porter grew up in Idaho, going back and forth between his drug addicted, divorced parents. At 23, he moved to Seattle, went to college, got married, and dedicated his life to addiction recovery. Ryan has worked in many recovery centers to include adolescent inpatient and outpatient, detoxification, and a variety of adult services. Ryan is currently a graduate student at Boise State University and the New Start Center for Recovery Program Manager at Intermountain Hospital.
Henry Schmidt Henry Schmidt III, Ph.D. is a psychologist and the Clinical Director of Washington State's Juvenile Rehabilitation Administration (JRA). He oversees the development and implementation of JRA's 'Integrated Treatment Model', including programming for specialized treatment targets such as substance abuse, co-occurring disorders, and sex offending behavior. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Washington, where he chairs Dr. Marsha Linehan's workgroup on program accreditation for Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). He also is president of a training and consultation firm devoted to expanding the use of evidence-based cognitive-behavioral approaches in youth residential facilities. Dr. Schmidt has published, made presentations and trained
internationally on DBT and treatment for juvenile justice adolescents in residential programs.
Jennifer Skeem Jennifer Skeem, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of California, Irvine. She is a Research Affiliate with NIMH Center for Mental Health Services and Criminal Justice Research, a member of the MacArthur Network on Mandated Community Treatment, and with the UC Irvine Centers for Psychology and Law and Evidence-Based Corrections. Dr. Skeem’s areas of interest are criminal justice and mental illness. The focus of her work is to inform clinical and legal decision-makers about persons with mental disorders. She has authored or coauthored over 70 articles, chapters, and books addressing such topics as understanding psychopathic personality disorder, assessing and managing violence risk, and identifying key influences on the outcomes of probationers who are required to accept psychiatric treatment. Dr. Skeem has received several awards including the Shah Award for Early Career Excellence from the American Psychological Association and the Distinguished Assistant Professor Award for Research from the Academic Senate at UC Irvine in 2006.
Pharis Stanger Employed by Idaho Department of Health and Welfare for thirty-three (34) years: Child protection and juvenile justice investigator and case manager, 1974-1988; foster care licensing and training, 1988-1989; volunteer service coordinator [federal crisis nursery – respite care grant project director], 1989-1991; substance abuse prevention and treatment regional coordinator, 1991-1992; state substance abuse program specialist (prevention) [National Prevention Network (NPN) for Idaho and Governor’s Rep. For Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities (Evaluated State Applications)], 1992-1999; substance abuse program manager & SSA Director [primary author of Idaho’s successful Access to Recovery grant application], 1999 to 2006; state human services program specialist – substance abuse, 2006 to present. Responsible for preparing and maintaining the state’s federal Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Block Grant application, purchasing statewide adolescent and adult treatment management services, monitoring statewide adolescent and adult treatment contracts, invoice payment preparation and tracking, and DUI evaluator licensing.
Jean Woodward

Jean Woodward, MHS, CHES, currently serves as Manager of the Co-Occurring Disorders, Case Management, and Prisoner Re-Entry Projects for the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare-Division of Behavioral Health. She is a nationally certified health education specialist with a diverse background in nursing, education, public and behavioral health. She is past-president and Executive Board member of the Idaho Public Health Association, is on the advisory board for the MPH program at ISU, and has served as adjunct health studies faculty at BSU.

Breakout session: The Recovery Model as an Organizing Principle for Integrating Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders Services

Michael Young Michael Young, LSW is currently works for District IV Community Corrections as a Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Specialist where he facilitates Stage 1 and Stage 2 Idaho Model CSC groups. He began working for the Idaho Department of Correction in 1994 as a social worker. and a psych-social rehabilitation specialist at ISCI. His primary focus was facilitating cognitive behavioral groups in the Cognitive Self-Change Program and helping inmates prepare for their return to society. He left IDOC in 2001 to work in the elementary school based Community Resources for Families Program. Mike currently facilitates Idaho Model Cognitive Self-Change groups for District 4, provides Idaho Model CSC facilitator training, and promotes program quality assurance for IDOC.
